1-Year vs 2-Year Track: Which Is Right for You?
Our counsellors review each student’s previous scorecard before recommending a track.
Why a Drop Year Still Makes Sense in 2026
- More seats are opening up across IITs, NITs and IIITs in 2026, but JEE Advanced eligibility is still capped at 2.5 lakh candidates. A structured drop year is about clearing that fixed bar, not waiting for easier odds.
- Seats have grown. JoSAA-coordinated seats across IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs rose from 62,853 in 2025 to 67,323 in 2026, an increase of about 4,470 seats, including 666 more in IITs.
- The JEE Advanced bar hasn’t moved. Only the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main scorers qualify for JEE Advanced each year, however many seats open up later. With over 12 lakh registrations per session, this fixed limit is the real bottleneck a repeat attempt has to clear.
- Cutoffs are near record highs. The General-category JEE Main qualifying percentile rose from about 88 in 2022 to 93+ in 2024 and 2025, and 2026 is tracking in the same range. A repeat attempt needs real score improvement, not another try at the same level of preparation.
- The two-session format helps repeaters. NTA counts a candidate’s better score across both JEE Main sessions, which rewards students who use a long, structured cycle to peak in whichever session goes better.
- IIT capacity is still growing. Phased expansion at newer IITs (Bhilai, Dharwad, Jammu, Palakkad, Tirupati) is set to add thousands more seats by 2028–29.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Tirumala IIT & Medical Academy considered the top ranked institute for Long Term IIT-JEE coaching in Rajamahendravaram?
Tirumala combines a 98% success rate, 30,000+ alumni and a structured long-format syllabus cycle built specifically for droppers, not a shortened crash-course version of the regular batch.
Why should a repeater choose a long-format batch instead of a 3–4 month crash course?
A full phase-wise cycle (Foundation → Advanced → JEE Advanced problem-solving → Revision) closes topic-level gaps that a crash course doesn’t have time to address. This matters more as JEE Main cutoffs keep rising.
Why does continuous, cumulative testing matter more than one-off mock exams?
It tracks month-over-month improvement against All-India rank data, so weak areas get caught and fixed early instead of surfacing in the final mock.
Why should outstation repeaters choose the Rajamahendravaram campus?
A/C hostel and transport are available, which makes a full year of focused preparation practical for students from Kakinada, Amalapuram, Eluru and other Godavari-district towns.
Why is small-group mentoring especially important for dropper batches?
Repeat attempts come with real pressure. Tirumala’s philosophy of individual attention, even at scale, is built into how doubt-clearing and mentoring run for this batch.
Why does a structured drop year still make sense when JEE Advanced eligibility is capped at 2.5 lakh candidates?
JEE Advanced eligibility stays fixed at the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main scorers, however many IIT and NIT seats open up. Clearing that qualifying bar is the real hurdle, and a long-format batch is built to help students clear it.
Why choose the 2-year track over the 1-year track?
The 2-year track suits students who need to rebuild concepts from the foundation, while the 1-year track suits those close to the cutoff who need targeted improvement.
